SPIC MACAY

In an unchanging and incessant effort to promote Indian culture and heritage, The Modern School, ECNCR organized yet another dance workshop in collaboration with Spic Macay on April 28, 2017. The guest artist was world renowned Guru Shovana Narayan, a name synonymous with Kathak. The programme commenced with the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony. This was followed by an interactive session where the danseuse enlightened the students about the aesthetic beauty of Indian Culture and Philosophy, along with the importance of classical performing arts. She explained the nuances of various mudras which are unique to Kathak and the meaning of the word ‘Kathakar’. The artist regaled and mesmerized  audience with her amazing foot work and hast mudras that vividly showcased the rhythmic imagery of dance rain, Arjuna and Lord Krishna riding a chariot, Draupadi’s plight on being lost in a gambling spree. She also explained how dance is related to the contemporary problem of environment where human beings are Dushasana and nature is Draupadi. As the performance came to an end, the school hall resounded with applaud showing that she had won over many hearts.
