Activity Days
With an aim to refine each student with teamwork, coordination and an all-round strengthening of not just body, but character and spirit, righteousness and honesty, various team and group activities were organised for ten days during Activity Days for classes P3-S3 from March 16 to March 24, 2023 in the school premises. Emphasising on the importance of every student’s individual interests, various activities like Fun with Experiments, Life Skill Sessions, Shaping Your Personality, Story Telling, Self Defense, Zumba Sessions and Traditional Sports were organised for the students to bring out the natural curiosity and the best within them. Activities like Balloon in a bottle, Water cycle in a bottle, Balloon Rocket, Cartesian Diver etc. helped them to enhance their knowledge. Many hands-on experiments like Milk Experiment, Invisible Ink, Dancing Rice, Run away pepper were also done by the students in which they learned about new concepts like surface tension and acid-base .
The senior students conducted varied experiments using a bar magnet, assembled a simple circuit,reviewed the reflection of light and intercepted the phenomenon of rainbow formation. They also learned to make a fire extinguisher. Math Activities like Show and Tell 2D shapes and 3D shapes, Rounding Off numbers on cards, Fractional Peacock, Role Play and Reaching to the target numbers were conducted. The pedagogy followed in these sessions was the mixture of teaching, fun and interaction ensuring that every child is completely engrossed and takes initiative in the sessions.
As a learning tool, Storytelling and Shaping your Personality encouraged students to explore their unique expressiveness and ability to communicate thoughts and feelings in an articulated and lucid manner. Fun games were also part of personality development wherein the students need to be good instructors and listeners to win the game. It helped them to improve their language skills, instilled love for reading and stirred their imagination. Personality development helped them to inculcate positive qualities like punctuality, flexible attitude, willingness to learn, friendly nature and eagerness to help others.
Life Skills sessions helped students to be calm, mindful, respecting what others speak and meditate to keep their thoughts under control. Interesting activities were taken up to let students understand the significance of mindfulness.
Traditional Games and Zumba sessions helped students to think for themselves, learn cooperation and teamwork skills, as well as work on strategies and tactics. These sessions were a fun way of getting students to learn – without them even realising it!
These activities allowed students to experiment with trial and error, learn from their mistakes, and understand the potential gaps between theory and practice. As a bonus, these hands-on experiences also provided a unique way to enrich the minds of the students in new and engaging ways. Such activities stimulated and challenged students, who adorned their thinking caps and creatively expressed themselves confidently
