“Amidst the rich harvest Across the greenery Baisakhi has arrived in all its majesty So let's rejoice and celebrate our happiness”

India being a land of many cultures which blend into each other seamlessly, each region has its own way of celebrating 'New Year'. In Punjab, this day is celebrated as Baisakhi, which marks the beginning of harvest season. It is a thanksgiving day when the farmers thank God for an abundant harvest and pray for their future prosperity. People don new clothes, visit temples and gurudwaras and offer obeisance.

The Junior Wing of The Modern School, ECNCR celebrated Baisakhi, on April 12, 2019, in the school premises, with great aplomb and merriment!

The entire school was immersed in the spirit of festivity. Classes P1and P2 celebrated the day enthusiastically. The significance of the festival was brought out in the informative talk on why we wear yellow on this day. The students were told that it was a symbol of prosperity and represented the yellow stalks of a rich and ripe crop ready for harvest. Thereafter the students of P2.rendered a lyrical song with the flamboyance of Punjabi culture followed by a significant address by the Headmistress, Ms. Rimpy Verma on the importance of Baisakhi.

In P3-P5 the special day started by seeking the blessing of the Almighty and reciting Shabads. The significance of Baisakhi was highlighted through a talk by the students of class P3. It was followed by the mesmerizing cultural performances presented by the students of P3-P5.

The students were also shown a video highlighting the importance of harvest festivals across the country and the various ways in which they were celebrated in different states.
