Excursion to Chopta, Tungnath

An adventurous expedition to Chopta and Tungnath in Uttarakhand 101 students of classes 6 to 8 visited Chopta and Tungnath in Uttarakhand for an unforgettable trekking experience from March 28 to March 31, 2024.

 

The 3 nights and 4 days expedition provided a valuable outdoor learning opportunity aimed at promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being while fostering essential life skills and values. The purpose of this trekking excursion transcended mere physical exercise and nature exploration. It was meticulously designed to offer a holistic experience encompassing various facets of personal growth and learning.

 

The journey commenced from the school premises, with students boarding tempo travellers equipped with breakfast provisions for the day. Excitement filled the air as the students embarked on their journey, marveling at the scenic beauty along the route. A pit stop for lunch at Rishikesh provided an opportunity for the students to savour freshly prepared dishes, replenishing their energy for the rest of the journey. Despite the length of the trip, spirits remained high as anticipation grew for the upcoming adventure. Upon reaching the destination, arrangements were made for the accommodation of students from classes 6 and 7 in comfortable rooms, ensuring a restful stay. Meanwhile, students from class 8 were escorted to Snowpod for an overnight stay, offering a unique and memorable experience for all participants. This deviation from traditional lodging added an element of novelty to the trip, further enhancing the overall excitement and sense of adventure.

 

Day 2 began with the introduction of the tour guide, who provided essential
instructions to the students regarding the upcoming trek. The trek from Sari to Deoria Tal (also known as Devariya Tal) covered a distance of 2.3 km, which was successfully completed in approximately 3 hours. Deoria Tal, nestled near Chopta, is a pristine lake renowned for its tranquil ambience and panoramic views of the Himalayas. The uphill trek from Sari village, accessible via a motorable road, led students to this idyllic spot, characterised by a stone pathway with intermittent steep steps and a backdrop of vibrant Red Rhododendron Trees. The students spent nearly 3 hours immersing themselves in the serenity of the surroundings, capturing breathtaking photographs, and relishing the scenic vistas. Upon returning, the students prepared for a recreational activity - a lively DJ night - to unwind and celebrate the day's adventures.

 

On day 3, the students were guided by the instructors to carry only some essential items for the Tungnath Trek in Chopta.The students were briefed about the trekking to Tungnath, third temple of Panch Kedar.Trekking through the serene landscapes of Chopta and Tungnath, students experienced firsthand the wonders of nature while developing a deep appreciation for the environment. Guided by experienced instructors, they navigated through the rugged terrain, overcoming obstacles, and pushing their limits. Along the way, they learned about the local
flora, fauna, and conservation efforts, fostering a sense of responsibility towards
the natural world.

 

Moreover, the trek provided ample opportunities for personal reflection and growth. As students tackled steep ascents and descended into verdant valleys, they discovered inner strength and resilience. They learned to overcome challenges, adapt to new environments, and support each other, building camaraderie and friendship along the way. As the expedition came to an end, students returned home with cherished memories and invaluable life lessons. The trekking experience not only nurtured their physical well-being but also nurtured their mental and emotional resilience. It instilled in them a sense of adventure, curiosity, and appreciation for the natural world, shaping them into well-rounded individuals with a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
