HT Workshop
Teaching students to experiment with creative writing and layout, the Hindustan Times organised a Design a Magazine workshop for students of classes VIII to XII on August 4, 2023. Students were introduced to the basics of visual design and the essential components that would help them to design a magazine or newsletter.
The workshop was spearheaded by Ms. Monica Gupta, Art Director, HT Media, who has been working on feature design for over two decades. The workshop, held at HT House, New Delhi, was attended by over 20 students from various schools of Delhi and NCR.
The workshop focussed on how to design a magazine and layout step-by-step. It helped the students to know about how to pick the correct font, colour, font size and also about margins. She explained the five basic building blocks of design: masthead/nameplate, font, colour, grid and structure. The most important thing before designing a magazine is the target audience.
Students asked multiple questions particularly related to selection of images and their placements. It was indeed a very insightful workshop as student editors got a lot to learn from the reputed organisation to be better editors, planners and designers.
