Indira Gandhi Museum
The students of classes S3 and S4 of The Modern School, ECNCR visited Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum on December 15, 2018. The visit was made to gain knowledge about the charismatic life of the first female Prime Minister of India- Late Mrs. Indira, Gandhi. Mrs. Indra Gandhi holds an important place in the history of ‘India Post Independence’ that students read in their textbooks.
The location was initially the residence of the former PM which was converted into a museum and memorial site after her premature death. She was assassinated within the premises of the very walls. The museum walls were adorned with numerous photographs of her public as well as personal life. The picture showcase started from her childhood and then moved on to various events in her life.
The museum section-the actual residence of the former PM was completely closed with glass walls covering all the rooms through which her study and library, living area, dressing room, bedroom and dining room could be viewed by the public.
A section was also dedicated to the life of the former PM late Shri Rajiv Gandhi, who became the PM after Indira Gandhi’s death. On display were the last remnants of his trousers and shoes that he had worn when he was assassinated by an LTTE suicide bomber in May 1991.
