Thalassemia Awareness Workshop
Thalassaemia major is a genetic disorder, passed from parents to children. Thalassaemia carriers are common in general population. All these thalassaemia major births can be completely prevented through awareness and timely screening.
The Interact Club of The Modern School, ECNCR strives to spread awareness among the citizens, especially the youth, about contemporary issues in the field of environment, health and education, plaguing the society and how to overcome them.
A workshop on Thalassemia awareness was held on July 24, 2019 to give the students an overview of the disease and its prevention.
An interactive session on ‘What is Thalassemia’, its cause and prevention were conducted for the students of classes S3 to S7 and various myths regarding the same were clarified by Rotarian Dr. Tejender Singh, Thalassemia specialist. The workshop aimed at spreading awareness about thalassemia and the need to be alert and educated about this inherited blood disorder.
Rotarian Dr. Tejender Singh explained the vital details of the disease through a story and a documentary effectively. She interacted with the students while highlighting the main points like cause, tests required, importance of blood donation and necessity of blood test for Thalassemia.
She also urged the students to donate blood as adults and make everyone around them specially their parents and relatives aware about the same.
A question-answer session was also held to clear various doubts of students. The session was knowledgeable as well as educative.
