Vindhyanchal House Assembly on Lohri and Makra Sakranti (P1-S7)

The greatness of India lies in its rich and vibrant cultural events and festivals that are celebrated round the year. With the same spirit, a special online assembly on Lohri and Makar Sakranti was conducted by the students of classes P1- S7 of Vindhyanchal House on January 15, 2021.

The assembly began with a PowerPoint presentation on the significance of these festivals. Students were also apprised about the harvest festivals like Bihu and Pongal that are celebrated in different parts of the country every year. Trimanveer Singh of class P2 A spoke about the significance of the festival and recited boliyaan in Punjabi, Angel Goel of classP2 A, Nishthaan Saluja and Jianna Sehgal of class P1 B performed beautifully on the folk songs of Punjab.

Madhav Grover of class P4B enlightened the students with a short story on Lohri and Makar Sakranti. Some students even shared their knowledge about the harvest festival.

They were all attired in colorful cultural outfits and relished groundnuts, Rewari and popcorns on the day, to enjoy the celebrations of the festival in its true spirit. There were some special performances of Kimayra Arora of class P5C, Hridya Arora P4B, Saanvi Oberoi of class P3B and Samar Choithani of class P3C on the auspicious occasion. They showcased their talents by performing traditional dance forms and singing Lohri folk songs in their melodious voices. Bhavya Verma of S6A presented a talk on the festival of Lohri highlighting its significance and richness. Poems on ‘Lohri’ and ‘Pongal’ were recited by Gavin Grover of S4 and Ayaan Gupta of S3 A respectively. The captivating dance performances of Sheryl Malik S3B and Sargun Singh S3A made the atmosphere of celebrations profound.

The assembly was a mixture of fun and information, as the students enjoyed and gained knowledge about the harvest festival. Celebrating festivals help us to be connected with our roots, culture and origin and strive to preserve it. They also help us to forget enmity and embrace one another to create a bond of love and an environment of cultural harmony.
