Visit to Jantar Mantar
An educational excursion to Jantar Mantar was organized for class P3 on October 12, 2019. There were 49 students who were accompanied by 3 teachers on the excursion. It was a fascinating and adventurous experience for the students. On arriving, the students were explained that the term ‘Jantar Mantar’ literally meant instruments for measuring the harmony of the heavens. Furthermore, the name Jantar Mantar was derived from the two words Jantar and yantra meaning instrument and mantra, which indicates calculation. Students learned that Jantar Mantar, an astronomical observatory with masonry instruments, was built in1724 by Raja Jai Singh 11 of Jaipur. There were different instruments like Samrat Yantra, Jayaprakash Yanta, Rama Yantra and Misra Yantra found there. The instruments inside the observatory were constructed and placed intelligently so that the observers could note the positions of the celestial bodies with their naked eyes. Students were found exploring the monuments with awe and admiration. It was an unforgettable experience which apart from being intellectually rewarding, gave the students a glimpse of the country’s proud history.
