The students of class S7 (both batches) of The Modern School, ECNCR, Delhi attended a webinar on 'What After XII? Trends in College Admissions' conducted by Ashoka University on April 16, 2021.

The webinar was moderated by Ramya Madukari along with a panel of experts-Namita Mehta, Vineet Sabharwal, Rohan Pasari and Arjun Seth. During the course of the webinar, various issues related to college admissions were taken up. The panel structured the discussions around three broad topics; impact of the pandemic on admissions for higher education, choices available for students in India and abroad and the significance of liberal education.

The discussion regarding the pandemic was an engaging one. They outlined that in 2020 people were not prepared for what was happening all over the world, which gave birth to many uncertainties. In 2021 although nothing has come back to normal but people are aware and informed in a way that they know how to utilise their resources to the optimum to deal with the situation. However, they further emphasised that there were still certain areas like applying to colleges abroad that still remained uncertain. According to them the main reasons why students chose colleges outside India were exposure, being in a new city, managing themselves in an entirely unknown country and the promising university life which they aren’t getting online in India. The discussion later was carried on by numerous questions being asked regarding admissions, universities, applications etc.

They concluded the conversation by quoting dialogue from Tina Fey's movie ADMISSION If you are the right fit for that university, you will make it and if you are not then you are meant for something bigger.
